The IndieCapitol Awards is a public event created to spotlight the individual and collective achievements of the Greater Washington Metropolitan areas locally produced independent films. With our promise of free submission and low admission cost, we strive to produce the best possible awards show to celebrate the Washington Metro's independent film spirit and provide an experience for attendees to be introduced to the work of their peers as well as promote an opportunity for networking for the advancement of the areas independent film offerings.
The IndieCapitol Awards began in 2014 as an off shoot of the IndieCapitol web series that began production in 2011. Releasing two seasons of interviews featuring “Washington DC Filmmaker of the Month” alum Ellie Walton, Jon Gann (WDCFM), Eduardo Sanchez, Ro Rao, Women In Film and Video, Anthony Anderson (WDCFM), Francis Abbey, Justin Timpane, Mike Kravinsky, Michelle Farrell, Eric Espejo, Harold Jackson III (WDCFM), Kelley Slagle, Devin Gallagher and Robert Epstein. Created by Filmmaker Anthony M. Greene (THICK, The Henchman’s War, WDCFM), IndieCapitol was established and set out to spotlight and promote the efforts of the Metropolitan areas film community by providing coverage through IndieCapitol.com and the IndieCapitol Podcast. The show, directed by Cheryl M. Brown (Thick) and hosted by Pamela Nash (4&9 Productions) continues to be avaialable on YouTube. Through the guidance of Reel Independent Film Extravaganza's Founder and Director, Spencer F. Johnson, the IndieCapitol Awards found a home and was produced as a public event as apart of the Reel Independent Film Extravaganza's programming.
“The definitive purpose of the IndieCapitol Awards is to simultaneously strengthen and champion the local film community. Its goal is to create a milieu for area filmmakers to be noted for exceptional work while inspiring one another to push the creative boundaries of locally produced content.” – Anthony Greene (creator of IndieCapitol)
